If you have sensitive or problematic skin, then you’ll know too well that flare-ups can happen at any given time and can be most inconvenient. Whilst you may use medication or natural remedies to alleviate and soothe the pain or irritation, wouldn’t it be great if you knew some tips and tricks on how to minimise the chance of a flare-up?
Now we’re not saying skin problems can be avoided altogether, but by understanding the different types of skin flare-up triggers and tips on how to combat them, hopefully, your skin flare-ups will be less common.
From skin rashes or psoriasis, to severe eczema or acne, having problematic skin not only causes you pain, frustration and irritation but it can also cause embarrassment.
Triggers are the things that cause your skin to react and become dry, flaky, itchy or red. These can be internal or external and some people may not be lucky enough to find out what causes their skin reaction. Therefore, we wanted to outline for you, the most common triggers and some that you may not be aware of to help you in combating skin flare-ups.
Physical irritants
Did you know that some common household items and substances from your environment can trigger your flare-ups? Such irritants include:
If you haven’t already considered one of these irritants, then next time you have a flare-up, think about your recent environment. For instance, if you stay at a hotel that uses harsh detergent on their linen or if you come across old items covered in dust, you may experience a flare-up. If this occurs, then you’ll know moving forward to protect your skin from these physical irritants.
Allergens
There’s a whole list of allergens that people may experience reactions to. Common allergens to be wary of include:
By keeping your living space and work environment as clean and free from allergens as possible, this will help reduce how often you experience flare-ups. This may require increased housework such as vacuuming and washing your clothes and bed sheets more often to help prevent allergens affecting your skin.
Heat
Unfortunately, heat, humidity and temperature changes can be hard to avoid but they can be a reason for your skin irritation. Examples can be:
To help reduce skin irritation due to heat, take cool baths and showers, when outside keep in the shade as much as possible, wear sun-protective clothing and apply sun cream. After taking a bath or shower, your skin’s oil can be prone to break down faster and cause loss of moisture, therefore apply moisturising lotion afterwards – our Hydrating Cream is perfect for this. Additionally, if you do experience sunburn, our Neem Cream is very effective for soothing the pain and reducing the inflammation.
Food triggers
Specific allergies aren’t skin flare-up triggers, however for some people if their skin comes into contact with certain foods then their skin can become irritated. Common foods to be cautious of include:
If you suspect that food may be a trigger for you, we recommend keeping a food diary for a month. Take note of the foods you come in contact with and your skin reactions. On the occasion that you can not identify a food trigger, ask your GP for help.
Stress
It is common for those with sensitive skin to notice skin flare-ups during times of stress. When someone feels frustrated, embarrassed, anxious or angry, their problematic skin areas become more irritable. What’s worse is that during these moments, you may find yourself scratching or upsetting the area further. Therefore, in these circumstances, it is important that you can recognise your stressors but try to combat stress as best you can. Yoga and meditation can help.
Remember, all of the itreatskin product range are made with only natural ingredients, perfect for people with sensitive or problematic skin and also good for people who want to use organic ingredients as part of their skin health regime. As you may well know, being eco-friendly means, you are not carrying out tasks that are harmful to the environment. itreatskin are passionate about sustainable living and we pride ourselves in our 100% eco-friendly product range. Maintaining a wholly environmentally friendly lifestyle can be challenging but fortunately for you, there are many eco-friendly alternatives engineered to work just as well.
It is vital for our world that we all choose eco-friendly alternatives to conserve energy and prevent pollution. By making changes to live a more sustainable lifestyle, we’ll not only help the environment, but we will also feel empowered as we are doing what we feel is the right thing to do. By setting a great example you may influence others and so the ripple effect will spread. The great news is that all itreatskin products are free from harsh chemicals, so they are better for your skin as well as for the planet.
Harsh chemicals such as toxins, parabens, alcohol, steroids, preservatives, and synthetic perfumes have no place in our products. But what about the rest of your beauty routine?
To be sure that your beauty routine is sustainable you can apply these eco-friendly tips:
1) All our skincare containers are recyclable – so make sure you:
Recycle
Once you have finished with your container, clean it out and dispose of it properly in a recycling bin.
Re-use
The ’Deep Impact face wash’ and ‘Hair and Beard Oil’ bottles both contain 50ml, the perfect travel size when you go on holiday. Keep your empty bottles to refill!
Upcycle
Our creams, oils and balms come in handy-sized containers that can be repurposed. Why not clean out one of our glass jars, get creative with some ribbon and upcycle them as a tea light holder.
2) Swap plastic applicators and accessories for these alternatives:
Cotton buds
Traditional cotton buds are made of single-use plastic. An estimated 1.8 billion are used every year in England alone and at least 10% are flushed down toilets, polluting our waterways and oceans. What is even more shocking, no matter how plastic-stem buds are disposed of, they can take up to 300 years to decompose completely!
The solution – choose the bamboo alternative. Now bamboo cotton buds are readily available on the high street and they are 100% biodegradable. They work just as well, if not better, and you can use a cotton bud guilt-free - while protecting the environment.
Toothbrushes
How many toothbrushes do you think you have used so far in your lifetime? It is estimated that the average person will use 300! Like cotton buds, you can now get your hands-on sustainable toothbrushes for a reasonable price.
Makeup brushes
Choose eco-friendly and vegan makeup brushes to match your itreatskin eco-friendly and vegan skincare products. You can easily get your hands on bamboo makeup brushes but unfortunately, although the handles may be bamboo, the heads may contain animal hair. Check that your bamboo makeup brushes have a certified vegan label.
Flannels
Go old-school and use flannels to wash your face instead of synthetic wipes and pads. We tend to forget just how useful flannels are. As well as cleaning your face and body, they also exfoliate the skin leaving your skin smoother and brighter. Then once you are done you can wash and reuse them again.
We’d love to know what eco-friendly changes you’re making to your beauty routine. Maybe you have some additional tips that you can share with us – so why not let us know over on our social media profiles:

]]>Using itreatskin products together with maintaining hydration and getting enough “beauty sleep”, may also help in promoting a positive body image and supporting your personal well-being, something very important in these anxious times.
We recommend completing your skincare routine twice a day, when you wake up and just before you go to bed; while hand skincare should be continuous throughout the day. To get the most out of your skincare routine, here’s the best order to complete the routine in:
1. Cleanse your face
Isolation provides an ideal opportunity to give your skin a break from wearing makeup, fake tan or other beauty products. Cleansing your face can make a huge difference to your skin’s health.
To cleanse your face of dirt or excess oils, we recommend using our Deep Impact Face Wash; revitalising your skin with essential oils, vitamins and minerals. Your complexion will be left refreshed, healthy and with clear glow without makeup.
2. Apply product to the face
Blue light is emitted from digital screens and excessive blue light exposure has been shown to have harmful effects on the skin and promote premature aging. During isolation, it is likely that your blue light exposure has increased due to working from home, staying connected with friends virtually or even by watching TV. But don’t worry, we have just the skin care products to combat this.
Our Hydrating Cream should be a staple to anybody’s skincare routine. With aloe vera and vitamin C, the Hydrating Cream is super moisturising and repairs skin without leaving any trace of greasiness. The cream penetrates deeply, delivering nutrients and antioxidants where your skin needs them most, leaving your face bright, refreshed and glowing.
3. Focus on your eyes next
Your eyelids and the undereye area are very delicate skin areas. To help reduce puffiness, brighten up your dark circles and help your face look more awake, you should apply eye cream daily. Our Ultimate Eye Gel contains chamomile, lavender and aloe vera to naturally help improve and brighten the eye area.
4. Body Skincare
Our Vitamin E Cream is an everyday moisturiser that actively repairs damaged skin and strengthens the capillary walls within, thus improving elasticity. It has shown wonderful anti-aging results while we also recommend applying it all over the body to nourish and ensure your skin feels silky smooth.
5.Care for problematic areas
Due to isolation and the lifestyle changes we have had to endure, many of us have abandoned our usual routines. Poor diet, lack of sleep and reduced outside activity, as well as worry and anxiety, have all had an impact on our skin’s health. This can affect us at any age.
Our Neem Cream has proven effective for improving skin irritation and problematic areas such as eczema, acne, spots, psoriasis and more. This wonder product is suitable for all skin types as it is made from a blend of organic oils, pressed neem, may change, oat oil and coconut oil.
6. Hand Skincare
It is vital to wash your hands to protect against the spread of harmful bacterial, now more so than ever before. However, you may have already experienced dry hands as a consequence. Frequent hand washing can disrupt the outer layer of skin causing dryness and irritation. To combat this, you should restore the pH balance of your skin with our moisturising and nourishing Hygienic Hand Sanitiser and Purifying Hand Wash. The pairing products are formulated with lemon myrtle, lemongrass, tea tree and more soothing ingredients that are rich in antibacterial, antifungal and antimicrobial properties.
Although it’s important to actively look after your skin in isolation, it is equally important to continue any good skin care regimes post-isolation. Itreatskin is here to assist you with this. itreatskin started with our very own skin nightmare. Our son suffered from severe eczema and we tried everything under the sun to help to control it. We know far too well from our own personal story just how difficult it is to find a skincare for sensitive skin. That is why itreatskin’s philosophy is centred around helping those who struggle with their skin, and this includes providing the best skincare products that include only natural ingredients. In doing so, we passionately strive towards ethical practice when sourcing our ingredients and throughout our production line.
We are very proud to be accredited by the Leaping Bunny and The Vegan Society, as our products are dermatologically tested without any cruelty to animals. The entire range of products are eco-friendly and they only include natural and organic ingredients.
Animal Welfare
We at itreatskin condemn animal exploitation. Since the very beginnings of our journey, we’ve always taken conscious actions to ensure that our products are vegan friendly. This means that none of our products contains animal ingredients nor are the ingredients tested on animals. All of the processing aids used in the manufacturing process are also vegan.
We are proud to be accredited by the Vegan Society and the Leaping Bunny brand. Both of which are internationally recognised trademarks that prove we meet the international standard for authentic vegan and cruelty-free products.
Natural and Organic
We consider the future of skincare to be clean. By using only natural and organic ingredients, we can be sure that toxic chemicals have not been used in the making of our products, thus helping to sustain insects and wildlife. Because of this, you can be assured that our products are gentle on your skin. You can also be proud of the fact that you are using an organically farmed product which has been carefully sourced and sustainably packaged, confident in the fact that we can trace each ingredient back to its origins.
Eco-Friendly
As well as sourcing the most natural products possible, we aim to help our environment by using sustainable and biodegradable packaging. Forty per cent of plastic produced in the UK is used in packaging which is single-use and subsequently discarded. We aim to promote our containers as ones which you can recycle, reuse, or upcycle. By using our products, you can be confident that you are not contributing to the Earth’s pollution problems.

In the event of our new product launch – we wanted to give you a little insight into the amazing properties that our hygienic hand sanitiser and purifying hand wash have!
So, let us start with the hygienic hand sanitiser.
Our new Hygienic hand sanitiser is perfect for aiding the prevention of the spread of harmful germs, whilst also preventing dry skin and other uncomfortable skin conditions. Bursting with natural anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and antiviral properties, to improve your hand health and help restore your hands to their natural PH balance. Made up from an all-natural lemon myrtle, aloe vera gel, vitamin E oil, tea tree oil and lavender oil – meaning that it is suitable for all skin types.
Introducing the purifying hand wash.
Our next new product on our amazing launch, our purifying hand wash, works alongside the hand sanitiser, to assist in actively repairing damaged skin. With the inclusion of no harsh chemicals, this product is an-natural blend of lemon myrtle, demineralised water, sunflower oil, coconut oil, olive oil, tea tree oil and lemongrass oil.
Now that we have bombarded you with skincare information, we thought it might be best to give you a little insight into what benefits each property has.
Aloe-Vera is a popular ingredient used in a number of different skincare products, due to it containing antioxidants, enzymes, and vitamins that help your skin stay clear, hydrated, and moisturized.
Working alongside this is the Vitamin E inclusion in our new products, with the ability to reduce inflammation by repairing the epidermis layer of the skin, to revitalise and preserve the skin’s natural PH balance.
Next, tea tree oil soothes the skin, helping to heal infection and relieve the discomfort of any itchiness you may have – whilst the lemon myrtle adds to the antibacterial, antifungal, and antimicrobial properties of our products. To finish off the incorporation of oils, lavender oil also assists in combatting skin irritation, and organic coconut oil reduces inflammation, nourishes the skin and it’s antimicrobial properties can help provide protection against harmful bacteria.
Did you know that water can be purified through demineralisation? Well, now you do! In both our products, we have removed almost all the minerals from all water bases!
As you can see, our new products have the complete package – ensuring that the skin on your hands is left rejuvenated, moisturised, and clean. If you are looking for more information about the products themselves, then visit our product pages here https://itreatskin.com/collections/new-in or contact us directly for a free online skin consultation https://itreatskin.com/pages/consultation.]]>
For more than two millennia, we’ve been using its many healing qualities to treat myriad skin conditions. From rashes to burns, malaria to diabetes, humans were wise to Neem’s attributes when it came to health – in some cultures, it was even considered to be ‘of divine origin’.
We can’t say we’re surprised.
]]>What is Neem?
Azadirachta indica – by another name Indian Lilac or, as we know it fondly, Neem – is a tree found on the Indian sub-continent; its abundant seeds and fruit are the source of the incredibly powerful, naturally-healing Neem oil. And it’s this oil which is the basis for our very own all-natural, organic eczema treatment, Neem Cream – the same product which changed the life of our son for the better.
Antifungal. Antibacterial. Antiviral.
It’s no wonder that even ancient humans understood somewhat the power of the Neem plant.
In India, people believed that the shade from the Neem tree was cooler than any other; humans cultivated their communities around its presence, claiming it as a protective haven for children and the infirmed. Today, we know that the Neem tree’s natural insect repellent would have also made these communities vastly more enjoyable to live within, not to mention provided with an abundance of incredible natural fertilizer for crops and livestock.
And it’s had its ways in the beauty realm too; even way back when, humans used crushed Neem powder mixed into DIY face masks to keep their skin hydrated and supple in the harsh climates, and used Neem oil for candles used to create makeup with which to attract potential suitors.
Needless to say, the Neem’s history is a hugely diverse, equally fascinating one.
How does it work, and why?
When we began looking for an alternative eczema treatment, something to treat skin conditions naturally, the many healing properties of Neem immediately piqued our interest. Neem contains aspirin-like compounds – mother nature’s own antifungal gift to us. Full of triglycerides, it works as an antioxidant to cleanse skin and keep it clear of any bacteria. And with fatty acids galore, it’s able to provide skin exactly what it needs to replenish, refresh and repair. In fact, Neem actually helps the skin rebuild and ultimately strengthen its many layers… Not to mention, encouraging collagen production. Hello, natural anti-aging tendencies.
We could go on.
These compounds and properties – along with so many others – helped form our natural skincare brand, itreatskin. We found a way to combine the properties of Neem with various other amazing plant-derived products which quickly proved to soothe, soften and ultimately heal skin.
It certainly did our son’s, and it’s doing so for many of our customers around the world.
It’s no wonder that Neem was recently declared “the tree of the 21st century” by the United Nations. Nor is it any surprise that since the 1990s, it’s been touted as “a tree for solving global problems”. We couldn’t agree more.
And now here we are, thousands of years after our early human ancestors discovered the Neem plant, using it to solve your skin problems one by one. We’re bringing you all the tools you need for healthy, glowing skin, free from eczema, psoriasis, acne or dermatitis; given the history it has, you can pretty much bet that whatever your skin needs, Neem can do it.
Who’d have thought that the ever-humble, ever-abundant ‘free tree of India’ would have such a resounding effect, and on so many people?

]]>One thing we can all agree on? It would be just fantastic if eczema simply went away.
Alas, it doesn’t – at least not without help – and that’s where we come in.
But first, we’d like to take this time to introduce ourselves, and tell you about our story.
itreatskin began with our very own skin nightmare; our son was suffering. His eczema appeared one day and progressed quickly, until he was covered head to toe. From allergy tests to sleep suits, all the creams and potions you could imagine and even more, nothing worked – well, not long term anyway.
We were at our wits’ end, not to mention our son’s.
Now, call us hippies, new age, mavericks or what have you – we truly believe in the wholeness of mind-body-spirit complex and, faced with our baby being put on steroids, we knew it was time to try something different. And thus, the Neem Cream was born.
After hours of research, trial and error and no shortage of frustration, we had brewed our first little pot of all-natural eczema treatment and were seeing results. The Neem plant has a fascinating history spanning 4,500 years – through modern research, over 135 pharmacologically active substances have been identified within. And it’s a combination of these which work so wonderfully as a natural remedy for eczema.
First came interest from neighbours and friends, then phone calls from friends-of-friends, strangers and otherwise; soon we’d been approached by a European distributor who wanted to help us get our product overseas. We were overwhelmed, first and foremost by the excitement surrounding our natural eczema cure, but moreover by the results we were hearing people had achieved.
Our Neem Cream was giving relief to eczema across the country.
You can read more about what went on here. From then, to now; our organic and now completely vegan skincare products have made their way to as many as 15 countries around the world, helping more than 12,000 customers treat all manner of skin conditions, from eczema to psoriasis and more.
We’re so proud and truly honoured to have engaged with so many people over the past few years. The next part of our story belongs to you.
Every ‘before and after’ photo we receive from you, every customer who takes the time to write in and tell us how our skincare products have changed their life – it’s why we do what we do. It’s our goal to be the number one natural, organic skincare brand on the planet. We want to provide people with an eczema treatment which works – a long term eczema treatment, not some flash-in-the-pan cover up.
Since creating the Neem Cream, we’ve diversified our range or skincare and beauty products to include Baby Balm, Vitamin E Cream, products to make your skin glow and your eyes sparkle; we toe the line between beauty and medicine to bring our all-natural, organic and vegan skincare product range to the market. We don’t just treat skin conditions and dermatitis – we help our customers achieve the beautiful, healthy, glowing skin they deserve.
What else is there to say, other than a big, warm welcome to the itreatskin skincare blog.
Here you’ll find the home of everything we believe in and live by, from tips for beautiful, healthy skin to research and trends we’re hearing about at the moment… Plus even more.
